Title: Welcome Back Administrator Fred
Post by jdiprofio on Dec 6th, 2008, 9:59pm

Well thankfully Fred Snelder from Down Under is back with us. He has been away for quite a while dealing with a very ill mother who passed on recently.

As much as I love spending time on the forum and site, I am real busy these days trying to get this parrot rescue off the ground. Between that and a very demanding career I am flat out.

Everyone that knows Fred will agree that he is more than qualified to act as an administrator here. He has vast experince in avian care and being as he lives in Australia, he also has first hand experience with these animals in the wild.

Please join me in welcoming him back to the fold.

Cheers,
Joe    ;)

thank you for the warm welcome back Joe
its nice to be back home here where I belong.
I look forward to meeting all the new and older members.
just for those members that do not know me I have had birds all my life and have been into breeding parrots and finches for the last 25 years.
I know one or two things about birds so I am more than happy to pass on my knowledge to other bird lovers
I look forward to chatting with you all

Welcome back, Fred. It is good to see that you have returned. I had quite the adventure last summer when Joe rescued three parrots and I spent most of my week there attending to Leon.

aww thanks Mom
lol I bet Leon will never forget  :) I think you loved your adventure
I had quite a trying time myself with the loss of my mother.
I had to sell most of my birds to cover the cost of going from here to the mainland to be with her.
there are only two ways off this island Tasmania and that is via plane or ship most of my trips I went via the ship because I could take my car as well.

I only have 2 birds left now my green cheek conure and a cockatiel we my wife and I have them inside as they talk there heads off I hand raised them from 2 weeks old and are very tame.

but I would do all that again if I had to
in a way when I think about it selling my birds to pay for my trips to see my mother was a good thing as I would not have had the time the birds needed I was never home long as I had to go back to be with my mother.
I am glad I was there for her  :)

one thing I have learned I can not be in two placed at once
half the time I did not know if I was coming or going.
now things have settled down for me I had to come back forum
this is a great place with very caring members I only have to look at my PM inbox for that.
I have to say a big thank you to all the caring members we have here and also to Joe my fellow Administrator  :)
one would have to go a long way to find caring folks like we have here  :)

welcome back Fred. We missed you. So sorry you had such a time. It is horrible to have to sell one's pets/friends. I had to do that with all my horses and I would sooner have cut my heart out with a butter knife. But we do  what we have to do. you are a good son to have been there for your mother. I am sure she is now your guardian [smiley=engel017.gif]

thank you for the welcome back  [smiley=thumbsup.gif] and your kind words  [smiley=thumbsup.gif] yeah I agree with you fully to go from about 300 birds down to two is a big drop.
that was hard to do but a good friend of mine has them so I could start again with breeding but for the time being I will just pass on my knowledge with others.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

one day maybe  :)

I am sure my mum is my guardian  [smiley=engel017.gif] I was with her till the very end sadly it all still seems like yesterday.  :(

Nice to meet you Fred, I as well lost my Mom and its been 10 years and yet it still feels like yesterday, I don't think that goes away. I am happy to hear you still have loving feathered friends to cuddle and talk to despite the downsize. I hope to talk lots and to help take Parrot Haven to the level everyone knows is possible.

I regret I am so late welcoming you back Fred- in this Thread. I also feel for you in the loss of your Mom. We can never replace a parent. Words do not change anything that happened but they can convey regret for your having lost her & encouragement for your life to come.I hope you have good memories of her.
I'm sorry as well you needed to sell/place your birds. That most are with a friend may be reassuring.
I do think that sometimes we can have so many birds that the individuals do not get the attention these intelligent, sensitive creatures deserve. They are 'flock' animals, generally & crave contact with others. I often feel  sadness for the lonely birds segregated & with no stimulation or  companionship .

I hope all the members make an effort to participate, work with you & know that we can make Parrot Haven a Fabulous Place!
I have not been on 'Parrot Haven' often in the past month but will try to get caught up. Again, Fred,    Welcome Back!

shame on him. tell him your mother is watching and tell him to read the books "The Eagle and The Rose" by Rosemary Althea and "Don't Block the Blessings" by Patti Labelle (sp?)

Birdgranna(Jackie?)'
I might ck out those books you recommended, thanks.

Fred,
I do not know you but from my own experience realize it can be difficult to enjoy life & feel like getting involved after a loss. I understand how  it might be  really tough right now.
The world seems to go on turning. You may feel deeply & need to accept what has happened in your own time.
Having an issue with your family member prevents you from coming to terms with your loss. With a lawyer's help in settling the estate issues perhaps there will be peace between you & your brother. You can likely guess what your mother would want.

When tough times come & they do, I always tell myself, "This too will pass".  It may sound a bit 'pat' but it is true.

If you want a little 'perk me up', ck out the clip I just placed under 'Parrot Tricks'. It is a bit saucy but sooo cute!

Take Care, Elli
